Project 3, 4th Quarter "Time"

Image
Time https://qz.com/1516804/physics-explains-why-time-passes-faster-as-you-age/ Time. Time is a funny thing--it is measured by scientific instruments and there are universal units and standards--including insanely accurate Atomic Clocks--that keep the whole world running on time. Despite this, we all experience Time in different ways, at different times. You've all heard the expression "Time flies when you're having fun" and I'm sure you've all experienced (not in my class, heaven forbid) boring lectures that seemed to go on for hours. Our perception of Time is colored,  among other things,  by our moods, our health, our activities and the schedules that we keep. So during this disruption in our regularly routines, Time has changed for all of us. For some, the days may be flying by, for others, dragging on slowly. But regardless of our perceptions, the passage of Time creeps uniformly forward, second by second, hour by hour, day by day. ...

Project 2, 4th Quarter "Ovoids"

Non-Denominational, Spring Ovoids That Just Might Be Appropriate  For The Mid-April Holiday Of Your Choice https://www.vecteezy.com/vector-art/144933-traditional-patterned-easter-eggs-vectors We will continue this week with another Pixlr-based Project intended to enhance your familiarization with Pixlr and the Pixlr workspace. Your challenge will be to *(convincingly) apply an image/pattern/design to ovoid shapes.  For the purposes of demonstration eggs are employed, but you could use any ovoid shape--a football, or um, a rugby ball, or, OK, I'm stumped.  Make it easy on yourself and use an image of eggs.   You may use the image below: You can also find a different copy-right free image online or, if you are ambitious (or hungry) create your own image. In any event, you will need a picture of at least 3 eggs. The Project can be completed in Photoshop as well as Pixlr, but if you are going to use PS, you will want ...

Project 1, 4th Quarter "Smiley"

Image
SMILEY The above photo is from a series created by Amy Haehl, a professional photographer and owner of  Coffee Creek Studio . One aspect of her work is applying toothed smiles to photos of infants (she specializes in photos of infants and this was a fun diversion). For your 1st Project of the 4th Quarter, your challenge to take a series of smile photographs and apply (at least) one of them onto something... anything ...of your choice. Happy jalapenos, laughing loafers, who knows?  Just try to put a smile on our faces. 🙂 To receive full credit for this assignment, you should submit a final image and an index print of your smile photos. Be *punctilious with the photograph of whatever will be the recipient of the smile. This will act as your background layer and the quality of your composition will be compromised if this is a weak image. (Poor focus, poor lighting, distracting elements, not paying attention to the entire picture plane, etc.) To rea...

Unseen LRHS Your challenge is to take 5 fabulous photos of things rarely, if ever, seen by most of the people on the LRHS campus.   Go.
Image
Influenced For your next project, you are to take the title of an album or a favorite song and create a photographic image using the title as a point of conceptual departure. An index print is required.

Letter to the Past Through the discovery of an inter-dimensional wormhole located in a small chicken coop on the outskirts of Wichita, mankind has learned that it is possible to move solid objects between dimensions—either into the future or into the past. (The experiments on living creatures did not fare as well #insideoutpig, #wearyourheartonyoursleeve) This amazing discovery has opened up abundant opportunities—particularly in education—not the least of which is that you can now communicate with your past or future self (!) In order to leverage this capacity, all students are being asked to write a letter to their former selves, providing instructive ideas about how to succeed in their future classes.   (The future is now) Please take a few minutes and write a letter to your past self about what it takes to be successful in the Creative Photography class. This may include tips on taking photos, use of class time & coming up with ideas for you...

Encroach Your next project deals with the power of natural forces on a man-made world. The photos below are examples of the concept (Although, these are  actual  photographs, yours will be composites of original and found images).  The link below will take you to more examples. Mother Nature Think in terms of the juxtapositions between the reality of the man-made world and that of the inexorable power of nature. You will be looking for a high-contrast concept, rather than a subtle, low-contrast idea. The stronger the conceptual contrast, the more successful the image will be. If you need supplemental photos to incorporate into your composition (that you are unable to take), you may use copyright-free photos you find on the web.

Forced Perspective Your next assignment will be to create a digital image that  uses the technique of  Forced Perspective  to   create an illusion of scale, distance or some other optical trickery . You may use the image processing tools in Photoshop to enhance your image, but the "trick" must come from your own photograph--not from a Photoshop composite. Look at the examples below and do your own web search for forced perspective photography.  As you look at the various examples, try to determine how the photographer achieved the illusion and what was necessary to create the image. Start to think about what approach you would like to take with your own interpretation of a forced perspective photograph. http://www.instantshift.com/2010/08/24/88-brilliant-examples-of-forced-perspective-photography/ http://digital-photography-school.com/forced-perspective/ http://petapixel.com/2014/09/10/artist-uses-forced-perspective-photography-cr...

Daily Dozen For your next challenge, you are to take 12 photos every day for the next 6 days . Each day, your photos will follow a color theme... Day 1--RED Day 2--ORANGE Day 3--YELLOW Day 4--GREEN Day 5--BLUE Day 6--PURPLE Although you must address each day's theme, it is acceptable to shoot photos that reflect the connotations of a given color rather than the color itself. The link below takes you to a site that fully describes the connotations of each of the colors listed. As usual, you are also encouraged to do your own research. Step 1 : Go to the link and review what the connotations are for each of the colors. Step 2 : Every day, for 6 days, take 12 photographs that relate to the color of the day.  The photos must contain either the color itself or the *connotation of the color. *When you post your photos to your Blog, make sure to identify the specific connotation you had in mind for photos that do not contain the color itself.  You can just ...
